The RiversEdge Products Stainless Spice Tin base is made from type 430 stainless which allows magnetic spice tins a base to attach. The 12" x 24" size is room enough for up to 24 round or square 2" diameter magnetic spice tins. JUST SO THERE'S NO CONFUSION: the base itself is not magnetic; you need to use spice tins with magnets in order to use the base correctly.
